We believe, in the words of the Papal Encyclical, Deus Caritas Est, that the love of neighbor is a path that leads to the encounter with God, and that closing our eyes to our neighbor also blinds us to God. Indeed, the Church is a Community of Love. The entire activity of the Church is an expression of a love that seeks the integral good of humanity. Love is the service that the Church carries out in order to attend constantly to humanities sufferings and needs. Love of neighbor, grounded in the love of God, is first and foremost a responsibility of each individual member of the faithful, and as a community the Church must practice charity. Love thus needs to be organized if it is to be an ordered service to the community.
Our vision is that every member of the parish will be involved in a corporal or spiritual work of mercy and have a forum to reflect on these experiences in the light of scripture so as to grow in Christian discipleship. Discipleship of Jesus, if it is true and deep, must eventually flow into ministry, the Latin word for service.
